Tonight, 27-year-old Jake Paul will face off against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in what promises to be one of the most unconventional matches in boxing history. The outcome of the fight is uncertain, but one thing is clear: a staggering amount of money is at stake. During a pre-fight press conference, Paul appeared to suggest that he was wagering his entire $40 million purse against co-main-eventer Katie Taylor.

The fighters on the card gathered for a panel discussion and were asked to predict how the Paul/Tyson fight will unfold. Taylor, along with everyone else on stage who did not share the last name “Paul,” favored Tyson to win. When Taylor made her choice, Paul challenged her, asking, “How much do you want to bet?” Taylor then asked, “Do you want to bet your purse?” Without missing a beat, Paul agreed, saying, “Yeah, let’s bet the purse.”

Paul has previously hinted at his $40 million earnings for the fight, while Taylor is expected to earn approximately $6.1 million from her match, as reported by the Irish Mirror. Those odds favor her well if Tyson, despite his age, manages to clinch a victory. Tyson himself is reportedly set to earn $20 million in his comeback fight after a 19-year hiatus from boxing.

The Post casts doubt on whether Paul’s wager can be taken seriously, but he was seen shaking hands in front of numerous cameras to confirm it, which could pressure him to follow through if he loses.

Nonetheless, Paul isn’t the only one with financial interest in this fight. Ben Fawkes, a sports betting writer, highlighted comments from a professional oddsmaker regarding the betting landscape:

“We have more written on it than any NFL game currently on the board. We’ve taken a few larger bets on Paul, but the overwhelming majority of tickets are on Tyson. The respected money is definitely on Paul.”

This suggests that while significant money is backing Paul, Tyson remains a sentimental favorite, drawing in many fans hoping for his victory and a chance to win some money too.

The fight is set to take place tonight, Friday, November 15th, at 8 PM ET/5 PM PST.
