Career Beginnings
O’Malley kicked off his mixed martial arts journey in 2015 in Montana, starting as an amateur and finishing with a record of 9-2. He also engaged in amateur boxing and kickboxing. He soon turned professional, competing in Montana before moving to North Dakota. In 2017, he joined the Legacy Fighting Alliance in Houston, Texas, where he gained recognition after knocking out David Nuzzo. This victory led O’Malley to secure a spot on the second season of Dana White’s Contender Series, where he scored a first-round knockout against Alfred Khashakyan and earned a UFC contract.
UFC Career
O’Malley made his UFC debut in late 2017 during “The Ultimate Fighter 26” finale, winning against Terrion Ware by unanimous decision. In early 2018, he fought at UFC 222, defeating Andre Soukhamthath also by unanimous decision; both fighters received Fight of the Night bonuses for this bout. Although he was set to compete against José Alberto Quiñónez at UFC 229 later that year, he was withdrawn from the match due to a potential doping violation, resulting in a six-month suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. After re-emerging in March 2019, he faced another suspension of six months due to another failed drug test. O’Malley returned in March 2020 at UFC 248, where he fought Quiñónez, achieving victory via TKO in the first round and earning his first Performance of the Night bonus.
