What is Casey Matthews’s Net Worth?

Casey Matthews is a former professional football linebacker who spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL from 2011 to 2014. He concluded his career in 2015 as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings, although he never took the field for the team due to an injury and subsequent surgery. At the collegiate level, Matthews played for the Oregon Ducks and earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in 2010.

Early Life and High School

Born on January 16, 1989, in Northridge, California, Casey Matthews is the son of Leslie and NFL player Clay Matthews Jr., who was playing for the Cleveland Browns at the time. His family has a strong football legacy, with his grandfather Clay Sr. and uncle Bruce Matthews also being NFL players, along with his older brother Clay Matthews III. Additionally, he has numerous cousins in the NFL, including Kevin and Jake Matthews.

During his teenage years, Matthews attended Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California, where he played linebacker for the school’s football team. In his junior year, he recorded 132 tackles and four sacks. His senior season was even more impressive, as he tallied 158 tackles, ten sacks, and two interceptions, helping the Lions secure a perfect 15-0 record and the California Interscholastic Federation Division III state championship.

Collegiate Career

Matthews opted to play college football at the University of Oregon, turning down several other offers. In 2007, during his freshman year with the Ducks, he participated in 11 games and made 18 tackles before a shoulder injury cut his season short. The following year, he played in all 13 games, amassing 67 tackles and two sacks. He earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors the next season. In his final year at Oregon in 2010, he was named a second-team All-American and first-team All-Pac-10 selection. He also participated in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, where the Ducks lost to Auburn. Matthews concluded his collegiate career with a total of 245 tackles, nine sacks, and four interceptions across 50 games.

Philadelphia Eagles

Selected in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the 116th overall pick, Matthews signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He began the 2011 season as the starting middle linebacker and later transitioned to the starting nickel linebacker. In his rookie season, he finished with 38 tackles and one sack over 16 games and three starts. Matthews had a less impactful season in 2012, recording only 11 tackles in 16 games. He saw a slight improvement in 2013 with 12 tackles. That year, the Eagles topped the NFC East and made the playoffs, but were eliminated by the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round. Matthews’ best season came in 2014, his final year with the Eagles, where he played in all 16 games, starting 11, and recorded 53 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Over his four seasons with the Eagles, Matthews accumulated a total of 114 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries in 64 appearances.
